INFORMATION FOR MARS OBSERVATION, DECEMBER 22nd, 2000.

D. A. Peach, King's Lynn, Norfolk, UK.
12" (30.5cm) Meade SCT.
Magnifications: 406X, 592X.
Filters: W#21/Unfiltered.

Seeing good (6-8). Transparency variable, and generally
poor, with dense fog throughout (1.5mag - 4.0mag.)
Wind SE (0-5mph.) Heavy dew.

Observation Time: 06:50 UT
Mars CML: 105.2
Ls: 92.7
Diameter: 4.98"

Comments: A break in the fog lasting about 20 mins, coupled with good seeing
allowed good views to be obtained. A definate bright haze over Chryse was present. Also
bright clouds over Tharsis, extending from Ascraeus to Arsia Mons, but no single spots were
definable. Mare Boreum - Lemuria appeared dark, as did Solis Lacus, but the edge of Mare
Acidalium toward Nilokeras appeared rather faint. The NPC appeared rather
small, but bright, with a dark collar.

            Eyepiece Projection @ f/55.2
            Integration Times:
BLUE (Koheisha, 445nm peak central; BWHM 105nm) 8.00s
GREEN (Koheisha, 540nm peak central; BWHM 75nm) 2.80s

Seeing poor (2-4). Transparency 4.5m. Wind SSE 0-1 kts. Altitude = 42-47
degrees. Heavy dew. All images are composites.
Albedo features extremely washed out, although Solis Lacus and Nilokeras
faintly seen visually in red light and on the red light CCD images. Most
likely due to very poor seeing and heavy clouds over Tharsis and
Xanthe-Candor rather than dust. Bright large morning limb cloud.
