Seeing 8 out of 10. Very steady, very slow seeing. Very hazy, much dust and pollen in the air. Many high and thin clouds slowly passing in front of Mars. Hot, quite humid (specially for May!). Sytris Major very dark, with dark and light areas, much detail. Hellas appeared to be broken into two areas, the smaller more south proceeding, perhaps clouds. Some proceeding limb haze. No sign of the north polar cap or Utopia. Because of haze and clouds, planet was very dark in the field, too dark to see any detail with filters.

Mars 19 MAY 2001 D.R. Klassen and D. Griep, Mauna Kea, HI Images taken at the 3 meter NASA Infrared Telescope Facility using the facility instrument NSFCAM, containing a LN2 cooled InSb 256x256 Infrared CCD array. The numbers below each image are the wavelength in micrometers (microns) at which the images were taken. The NSFCAM is equipped with a cooled Circular Variable Filter allowing image to be taken from 1-5 microns in wavelength at a spectral resolution, R, of about 100 (or bandwith/wavelenght of about 0.01). Images have been individually stretched in color space to show details.

Seeing conditions were medium. Low intermittent clouds and high haze. Temp was about 72°F. Humidity felt like 95%. Observing station was 5 miles from center of Dallas Texas. Collected several AVIs, only the first couple were usable. I believe that there is the hint of a cloud on the left limb. Image was collected with C8, 3xBarlow, Vesta Pro WebCam. Used Vega for image acquisition, AVI2bmp for image conversion and selection, Astrostack for alignment, stacking and initial unsharp mask processing, and PhotoShop for image adjustment and editing.
