Bowie, Maryland
4.25-inch f/10 270x
Seeing 8 out of 10. Very steady, very slow seeing. Very hazy, much dust and pollen in the air. Many high and thin clouds slowly passing in front of Mars. Hot, quite humid (specially for May!). Sytris Major very dark, with dark and light areas, much detail. Hellas appeared to be broken into two areas, the smaller more south proceeding, perhaps clouds. Some proceeding limb haze. No sign of the north polar cap or Utopia. Because of haze and clouds, planet was very dark in the field, too dark to see any detail with filters.

Notes --

05:30 U.T. (left image): An observation of Mars made using Wratten
23A (light red) and 30 (Magenta) filters. The North Polar Cap (NPC)
appears very small, but brilliant (10/10) over the north polar limb.
The Trivium Charontis-Cerberus-Phlegra complex is visible on the CM and
it appears dark (3/10). The Azania region to the east (preceding) of
Phlegra appears mottled and dusky to dull (4-5/10). The Propontis
complex is visible to the northeast (North-preceding) of Phlegra as
a dark (3/10), rectangular-shaped albedo feature. An very to extremely
bright (8.5/10) orographic (mountain-associated) cloud is visible
over the southeast (South-preceding) portion of Elysium (8/10). The
Hyblaeus Extension is visible along the northwest (North-following) border of
Elysium and it appears dark (3/10) and triangular-shaped. The
Cebrenia-Panchaia region north of Elysium appears dull to shaded
(5-6/10). The Arcadia-Amazonis region appears bright (7/10). Mare
Cimmerium and Mare Tyrrhenum appear dark (3/10) towards the southern
limb separated by a thin and very bright (8/10) Hesperia. An
extremely bright evening (preceding) limb haze (ELH) is visible with possible
orographic clouds (projections) noted along it's border. An
extremely bright (9/10) South Polar Hood (SPH, or Haze) is visible towards the
southern limb. The eastern (preceding) border of Syrtis Major is
visible towards the following limb beneath an extremely bright (9/10)
morning limb haze (MLH). Zephyria, Aeolis, Aethiopis appear bright.

06:10 U.T. (right image): An observation of Mars made using
Wratten 30 (Magenta), 47 (Violet), 64 (Blue-Green), and 80A (Light Blue)
filters. The northern, eastern (preceding), southern , and western
(following) limbs are obscured by an extremely bright (9/10) haze.
An very to extremely bright (8-9/10) projection is noted from the
evening (preceding) limb haze over the Amazonis region apparently connecting
to a very bright (8/10) and diffuse orographic cloud over Elysium. A
violet (Wratten 47) clearing (1-3) of 1 was noted as well.
