Albedo features more distinct: Sirenum, Cimmerium maria mod. dark. Note that
Mare Chromium as well as Simois and Scamander visible. Hesperus seen near
terminator. Trivium and Propontis I faintly visible. Note dark streak along
N. border of Sirenum and Cimmerium as seen near quadrature in previous
apparitions.
SPC distinct. Prominent PM limb haze persists.

INSTRUMENTAL
180mm Astro-Physics EDT apochromatic refractor
SBIG ST7e CCD camera
0.35 arcsec/pixel

IMAGING
2001-Oct-09, 11:28 UT.
35 of 64 exposures, 0.11sec, R filter.
Camera temp -24degC.
Dark & flat calibrated, Van Cittert deconvolution, unsharp masking.

CONDITIONS
Ambient temp=10degC
Seeing 7/10,
Transparency 4/5.
Mars's altitude 49deg.

MARS DATA
CM=330deg, Diam=10.1", Ph=85%, PAdef=82deg, PAaxis=17deg, DecEarth=-9deg.
South up.

REMARKS
Hint of albedo markings & SPC visible visually, and definitely stronger than
a month ago. Is the dust settling? Hellas bright, and M. Australe
quite dark next to a small bright South Polar Cap. Deltonon Sinus seems enlarged.
Limb brightening is an artefact.

NOTE: "New" very dark albedo feature in Daedalia-Claritas..reminiscent of
Phasis and Araxes in 1877. However now the convexity is towards the east.
Solis Lacus small, dark. Noctis L., Ambrosia, and Acampsis faintly visible.
Sirenum M. only moderately dark and extended eastward. Tharsis volcanoes
again distinct. Olympus Mons visible near NW limb.
SPC distinct, bright. Prominent PM limb haze persists with Argyre very bright on SE limb.
