Portable Applications are programs that run from a USB drive or some sort of portable device, like a cell phone or an iPod. Portable applications often have all of the features of "full-fledged" applications but in a smaller package.
Portable applications have the advantage that just about everything that you need is on your portable device along with the software. All you use from the computer that you plug the device into is the computer's basic hardware (CPU, RAM, etc.), operating systems, and, if required, Internet connection. You do not use the computer's storage devices (hard drive, etc.).
Portable applications are a fairly new but rapidly growing type of software. I will be updating this page as I find new sites.
