Research:

1973-76:

Operating system design with particular reference to message passing kernels. This resulted in the award of the M.Sc degree.

1976-83:

Computational Seismology with particular reference to surface motion response to incident SH waves. Finite element modelling formed a significant part of the methodology. The Ph.D degree was one result of this research.

1983-present:

Distributed computing. This includes

(a) Computer communication protocols,

(b) Concurrency and availability in distributed computing systems, and

(c) The modelling of distributed computing systems.
