    • My research
         Radio astronomy gives us a glimpse of the most distant (and thus oldest) known objects and structures in the universe. By applying the technique of aperture synthesis (interferometry), one can examine the detailed structure of active galactic nuclei (AGN).  Many radio-loud AGN are among the most distant objects observed, and the light we observe from these objects originated billions of years ago (when the universe was significantly younger).  Also, many advances in cosmology, the study of the universe as a whole and single system, have come from precise measurements of the cosmic microwave background at radio wavelengths, and more insight will be gained in the next decade with such measurements.
        My research has an observational emphasis, although the motivations arise out of theoretical issues raised in the study of AGN and cosmology. Various National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) telescopes are utilized, including the Very Large Array (VLA) in New Mexico.
