I would first like to thank my doctoral committee members: Bob Howell for all his scientific, financial, and overall moral support; Jim Bell for the data set, the Mars expertise, and the job; Paul Johnson for the PCA/LMM code and the discussions of those techniques; Ron Canterna for his general interest in the life, work, and welfare of a graduate student; and Carol Frost for her help in teaching me how to translate all the rock terminology. I would also like to thank Earl Spillar for his help with early attempts at gathering camera data and for his continuing interest in both this project and my success.
Many and sundry fellow graduate students have come and gone, leaving a piece of themselves with me. They have all, to some degree, kept this man who's always been crazy from going insane. I would like to thank some of them individually - those I have known since arriving at Wyoming and have had a lasting impression on me due to their discussions both scientific and other: Larry DeWarf, Tracy Hodge, Mark Welegala, and Nor Pirzkal. I recall many a debate wherein we have solved most of the world's troubles. Unfortunately we all came up with different solutions, which I guess explains why none of us is going into politics.
Finally I would like to thank my family. My parents, Roger and Michelle, whose
unshakable faith that I could achieve whatever goals I dared dream has been a guiding
light to me. My brother, Daniel, for helping me to reach the steps of this journey and my
sister, Mary, for her help from this path to the next. My grandmother, and a whole host of
aunts, uncles, and cousins whose support of my efforts is shown by the questions they ask
whenever we see each other.
